MSF is an independent international medical relief organisation, with 28 offices worldwide. When large-scale epidemics occur, when areas in crisis are too dangerous for many other organisations, then our medical teams are there to assist the affected population. We organise basic medical care, treat the injured, carry out vaccination campaigns, train local staff and build up medical infrastructure. In long-term aid projects our teams fight diseases like tuberculosis, malaria, sleeping sickness, and HIV/AIDS.

Finance Coordinator

tasks and responsibilities

Helping those in need also requires the expertise of financial administrators.

The position of financial administrator carries a great deal of responsibility in the work you will do with us. You will be part of our country coordination team, which generally works in the capital city of the respective country of assignment. You will be the first point of contact for all your colleagues in all matters involving finance. You will be responsible for a wide range of projects in the assigned country and provide active support to our financial administrators working with those projects.

You will ensure the proper management of all expenses on site. You will also be implementing and monitoring transaction processes and systems. You will ensure that there is transparency accounting and will be able to, for example, trace invoices, receipts and settlements in order to ensure seamless accounting practices. You will also be responsible for the timely execution and review of monthly and annual financial statements, financial reports and audits, and all service contracts involved in our projects. You will set and analyze budgets for our projects and will ensure that the funds are used in accordance with funding contracts. Where necessary, you will also be tasked with proposing corrective actions.

You will guide and work closely with a team of finance professionals.

Our Requirements

  • A degree in financial management or business administration, or training as an accountant
  • At least two years of professional experience in a comparable position
  • Knowledge of financial administration (accounting and reporting) and financial management (planning and control)
  • Experience in leading and training staff
  • Availability for at least twelve months
  • Fluent English, knowledge of French is a big plus, other languages such as Arabic are also an advantage
  • Travel or work experience in African, Asian or Latin American countries
  • Ability to work in a team, cultural sensitivity, organizational and improvisational skills as well as high mental and physical resilience
  • Willingness to work in accordance with Médecins Sans Frontières humanitarian principles, charter and mission statement
